About Us
FRIENDS OF STAR
We are Friends of STAR. So what is Friends of STAR?
It is just a club with no fixed membership but with a common interest; to promote STAR as the best boarding school in the country - and that's what this web site is all about. It is about promoting the school to let every Ali, Tong Seng and Ramasamy in the country know that besides the Malay College there is another great school in Perak and it is called Sekolah Tuanku Abdul Rahman, Ipoh. Or maybe to get people as far away as Botswana or Ukraine - we got traffic from such places - to know about STAR.
To assist the school financially. OK, so what about it? If you go to STAR, the gate, the hall, the gazebo, the canteen behind the dining hall, the new school paint, the new academic fittings and furniture and many more are there because we either contributed our own money or we lobbied government for funds. Of course, we don't have much money on our own but our connections count.
Can you join Friends of STAR? No. There is no membership. If you think you share the same commitment as we do then you are already a member of Friends of STAR. Of course from time to time we hold get-together known as "teh tarik sessions" or some events in school like Rugby Club dinner etc. You may join all these events for free and since we are not an association, we don't charge you anything. Even the the teh tarik is free.
Why do we do this? Because we care about STAR. And that's all.
SEKOLAH TUANKU ABDUL RAHMAN IPOH

Sekolah Tuanku Abdul Rahman (or STAR) is one of the better known schools in Malaysia. It is a boys only boarding school managed and financed by the Malaysian Government. The school is named after the first Yang di-Pertuan Agong, Tuanku Abdul Rahman ibni Almarhum Tuanku Muhammad.
Located at Jalan Sultan Azlan Shah, Ipoh the school was founded in 1957 and was then known as Malay Secondary School before it changed its name to Sekolah Tuanku Abdul Rahman in 1958.
The school, though a public school, is not open to public. Students are selected by the Ministry of Education from across Malaysia based on academic performances or other criteria as decided by the Ministry from time to time.
The school motto is "ILMU PANDUAN HIDUP". "Ilmu" is a Malay word for education, "panduan" means guide or guidance while "hidup" simply means life. The school song also shares the same title as the school motto.
STAR is a recognised high-performance school and academically it is considered as one of the top ten schools in the country. Besides high academic achievement, the school is known as a power player in Malaysian schools rugby.
