What If ....

I was in KK last weekend doing citing duty for the iRB Asian Series – Borneo 7s.  That was my 1st 7s assignment, having done Asia 5 Nation (A5N) games for Division 1 in Singapore, Division 3 in Jakarta and the Japan vs HK in Tokyo.

Whilst waiting for the plane to depart (it was delayed for an hour – not Airasia’s fault, Sultan decided to fly about the same time we’re flying, and the authority decided to close the airport for an hour… wicked!!) I managed to flip through a few pages a book that my mate bought for me – The Tpping Point by Malcolm Gladwell.

It is about how little things can make a big difference.

I believe, as a regional rugby administrator, I’ve got enough acquaintances that could propel STAR’s status as Centre of Rugby Excellence a few notch higher than the other schools in Malaysia.

Let’s allow our imagination run wild.

What if when I was in KK, I had a meeting with iRB’s Rugby Manager for Asia, the Honorary Secretary of Asian Rugby Football Union, the Vice President of MRU and the Managing Director of Elite Steps (the company that runs HSBC A5N) discussing about the grass root development rugby in Asia.

I would inform them, that I have the formula how to promote rugby at the grass root level and I would like to run it in STAR.

What if they say that, they will give me a full sanction for that program and it can be run under the iRB, ARFU and MRU flagship?

I will tell them I would be grateful.

What if they tell me that iRB Total Rugby will cover the program for TV promotion?

I will tell them that I will bring in England’s National Schools Coaching Team to run Rugby Clinic in STAR and bring in The Indonesian Rugby U16 and U18 team for STAR to spar with, and they can film that event.

What if as a carrot for STAR rugby players to excel both in the sports and academic, they can be send for 4 months in England to be a scholar and player in a top rugby school there?

I think STAR can get better students among the rugby players.

Maybe these are all wishful thinking … but what if it may come true someday!
