'Woman' selling 'virginity' online turns out to be a man

A 'woman', who wanted to sell her "first night", has turned out to be a middle-aged Chinese man.

Recently, a 'woman' who called 'herself' Guo Hanyun, 24, from Hubei in China offered 'her' virginity online to anyone who could save 'her' father.

'She' wrote: "Whoever can save my father, I will be your woman. If you have a lover, I will be your slave."

The message was posted on a China site on New Year's Day with a photo of a young woman.

Within a day, more than 100,000 people viewed the posting.

"Nov 20, 1996 is a black day in my life. Several policemen took my father away and kept him in a mental asylum till now. I was only 10 then," 'she' wrote.

'Guo' claimed that 'her' father Guo Yuanrong was wrongfully locked up after exposing a corrupt official in the economic department of Zhuxi county government where he worked.

In 2001, a medical report showed that Yuanrong had recovered, but the authorities did not discharge him, the message said.

This has sparked outrage among netizens and the authorities were forced to release the 49-year-old Yuanrong on Tuesday.

But, that was not the end of the story. The young 'woman' later turned out to be a male photographer who was also locked up in the asylum for six days.

Peng Baoquan met Yuanrong in April last year after he was caught for taking pictures of a protest near a police post.

He said he had no intention to cheat the public, but to save Yuanrong.

"I had posted many messages on the Net about the true story of Yuanrong but had no response.

"I had no choice but to create a story to get media attention," he said.

"Most of what I posted is true and Yuanrong really has a son, who was only 10 when he was caught.

"He has not been able to take care of his son. I sympathised with him a lot," Peng said while explaining why he carried out the campaign.
