Old Boy And Son Killed In Freak Accident

A contractor and his eight-year-old son died when their car rammed into the back of an excavator near Kampung Jambu Bongkok here.
Wan Shaari Zakaria, 50, and his son Wan Shakisfri were on their way home to Marang at 5pm on Saturday after a trip to Dungun when the accident occurred at KM62 of the Kuala Terengganu-Kuantan road.
Marang OCPD Deputy Supt Ahmad Mazlan Yahaya said initial investigations revealed that Wan Shaari had lost control of the vehicle before ramming into the excavator parked by the roadside.
"Both victims died due to severe head injuries. The bodies have been sent to Dungun Hospital for post-mortem," he said.
Ahmad Mazlan said the police were still investigating what had caused the accident.
The excavator driver, Rowi Abu Bakar, 48, said he had stopped by the roadside to collect a fee owed by a local contractor.
"Suddenly, I heard a loud noise and saw the car had rammed into the excavator.
"My friends and I rushed to the car and dragged both victims out before it caught fire," he said.
