Mara students to get better English training -
Majlis Amanah Rakyat (Mara) will introduce a programme next month to improve the English language proficiency of students at its junior science colleges.
Mara chairman Datuk Seri Idris Jusoh said the "English Everyday" programme would be launched on Oct 3 at the Jeli Mara junior science college.
The programme is aimed at encouraging students of these colleges to speak English fluently in their daily conversation and how to use learning material in English for their studies.
International Trade and Industry Minister Datuk Seri Mustapa Mohamed, the Jeli MP, will launch the programme.
In December last year, the Deputy Prime Minister had said that Malaysia's focus on education and human capital development would address workforce weaknesses raised by foreign investors.
These included the lack of skilled workers and poor command of English.
Education and human capital development, said Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin, was vital for successful economic transformation as the country needed more skilled and qualified workers.
On another matter, Idris said yesterday that the third religious-stream Mara junior science college called MRSM Ulul Albab would be established next year in Kepala Batas, Penang.
The existing religious stream colleges are in Besut (Terengganu) and Gemencheh (Negri Sembilan).
