Venkata Raman, a Tamil Brahmin, was born on 7th Nov. 1888 at Thiruvanaikaval, near Tiruchirappalli, Madras. He was the first Asian to be conferred the prestigious Nobel Prize in Science. It was in the 1930, the period which the people of Malaya still in the clutches of the dark age of feudalism and colonialism.
