The best sportspersons and sports teams in 2011

Who did the International Sports Press Association (AIPS) choose for its awards for in 2011? From Lausanne, Switzerland, the results have defined the best sportspersons of the year and the best teams of 2011. Leading the lists are Serbia's Novak Djokovic (tennis), Norway's Marit Bjoergen (cross-country skiing), FC Barcelona (soccer club), the World Athletics Championships in Daegu (sports event).

The jury was composed of 379 journalists from 82 countries. For the sportsman of the year, the male prize went to the Serbian tennis star Novak Djokovic, ahead of Leonel Messi (Soccer) and Usain Bolt (Athletics). The woman prize goes to Norway's Marit Bjoergen (cross-country skiing), ahead of Vivian Cheruiyot (Athletics) and Federica Pellegrini (Swimming).

For the teams, Barcelona football club tops the list with 1,411 votes, ahead of the New Zealand All Blacks Rugby team (1,000) and the Brazilian masculine volleyball team (617).
